Tomb Raider: Underworld to ósma odsłona sławnego cyklu gier o pani archeolog. Za jego najnowszą część odpowiedzialne jest studio Crystal Dynamics, które już wcześniej miało do czynienia z Larą Croft przy odcinkach Anniversary oraz Legend. Wydawcą niezmiennie pozostaje Eidos Interactive.
Fabuła gry nawiązuje głównie do mitologii Majów. Lara Croft ląduje w południowym Meksyku, a celem jej zainteresowań jest świat Podziemi – Xibalba. Portale do tego tajemnego miejsca otwierają się podczas pięciu ostatnich, nienazwanych dni kalendarza Majów. Jak łatwo się domyśleć, w Tomb Raider: Underworld Lara odkrywa starożytne sekrety związane z Xibalba.

Rozgrywka to połączenie skakania, biegania, przesuwania dźwigni, rozwiązywania zagadek oraz walczenia. Do dyspozycji dostajemy też bardzo pomocny przy eksploracji hak przywiązany do liny oraz nowe triki. Między innymi możemy wspinać się po kolumnach, docierając do trudnodostępnych, wysoko położonych miejsc. Ponadto wygimnastykowana bohaterka potrafi wdrapywać się na te ściany, które posiadają jakiekolwiek wyżłobienia. Co więcej Lara, jednocześnie trzymając się jedną ręką krawędzi lub przylegając do kolumny, potrafi strzelać do ruchomych celów. �?ącznie seksowna pani archeolog wykonuje blisko tysiąc różnorodnie animowanych ruchów. Lara posiada też motor, który nie raz nam się przyda podczas odkrywania tajemnic Majów. Dla przykładu ustawiwszy elementy układanki w określonej kombinacji sprawimy, że w oddali otworzą się sekretne drzwi. Starając się dobiec na miejsce, Lara z pewnością nie zdąży. W takich chwilach warto wskoczyć na pojazd, dzięki któremu pokonujemy dystans o wiele szybciej.
