Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing to zabawna gra wyścigowa stworzona na modłę nieśmiertelnej serii Mario Kart. Zamiast w wąsatego hydraulika i Donkey Konga wcielamy się tu jednak w Sonica, jego przyjaciół oraz bohaterów innych produkcji firmy SEGA.

Charakterystyczny Ponaddźwiękowy Jeż zostaje zatem wsadzony do równie szybkiego jak on bolidu i ściga się po barwnych torach w towarzystwie m.in. Tailsa, Amigo, małpki z Super Monkey Ball oraz Doktora Eggmana. Co ciekawe, pojazdy nie są ograniczone tylko do tych poruszających się na kołach (samochody i motory) – nasze kontrolery wprawiają w ruch także maszyny latające. Każdą z nich możemy oczywiście odpowiednio podrasować kupując i wygrywając nowe, lepsze części.

Twórcy stworzyli na potrzeby gry kilkadziesiąt zakręconych torów, w większości osadzonych oczywiście w krainach wzorowanych na światach znanych z gier SEGI. Ścigamy się zatem na terenie średniowiecznego zamku, w lasach deszczowych oraz potężnych metropoliach. W trakcie wyścigów zbieramy różnego rodzaju przedmioty zwiększające nasze umiejętności (chwilowe przyspieszenie, tarcza ochronna itp.), a także atakujemy przeciwników ciosami specjalnymi o nazwach: Super Sonic, Tails Tornado, czy Banana Blitz.

Gra oferuje zarówno zmagania w trybie single player, jak i opcję wieloosobową. W przypadku podzielonego ekranu jednocześnie mogą się bawić maksymalnie cztery osoby. W trybach sieciowych uczestniczy naraz do ośmiu zawodników.
